    New manufacturer. But transparent (more so than existing manufacturers). Have they got it 100% right? No. But the fact that you have access to the chief engineer and can ask these sorts of questions without a PR person getting in the way of an honest response gives me hope that they will learn and adapt quickly.

  • @stevegreen101

    The fact that he has to take a note and check on DTCs and ODB readers seems to suggest that he's not alive to the issue. That's disappointing. All we're getting from Ineos is fuzzy answers on this. Ease of repair was on the piece of paper he held up as the original spec!

  • @stevegreen101

    Less electronic reliability - why then does things like the front winch & rear NATO socket run through the Body Control Module and the winch not operate or power is cut to the rear socket via electronic inputs remote from the driver inputs? Why the inability to engage the axle diff locks in high range or the front diff lock without the rear?

  • @g0fvt
    @g0fvt 18 часов назад

    Some very well considered questions. I would guess that for an "adventure vehicle" you need greater resilience to soft failures than needed for ordinary road use. Sadly with my most recent cars I have resorted to obtaining dealer software, it is not a case of hacking the vehicles but is needed to "reset counters" when you do simple maintenance, for instance changing transmission fluid or even replacing a battery. I do understand that a representative from the makers is not wanting to make too many assertions of what can be done with a standard OBD tool, it perhaps needs someone to investigate.

  • @stevegreen101
    @stevegreen101 18 часов назад

    The wheel speed sensor is an interesting point. Doesn't the Grenadier require this for the use of the axle diff locks. You can't relock a diff until the wheel speed sensor has confirmed it's unlocked?

    • @L2SFBC
      @L2SFBC 18 часов назад

      When you unlock the unlock will happen but the light doesn't go out until there is a wheel speed difference. Don't know if that is measured at the wheels or shafts. Interesting question.

    Is it possible that the black Porsche that hit the barrier with its rear might have stalled out? Wouldn't that eliminate the brake assist, leading to a sudden need to become the hulk to adequately press the brake pedal? Ok, not become the hulk, but in that situation i wouldn't fault the drive for not being prepared for a sudden loss of brake assist. I've never driven on a track, so i can understand that reaction. IF that is what happened. Idk, just asking.

    • @L2SFBC
      @L2SFBC День назад

      Yes, it's possible something like that may have happened, but if the brakes are locked, then when the engine goes off they'll pretty much stay locked, lack of servo assistance is more for braking to begin with. Also let's assume the vehicle is still in a forward gear yet rolling backwards, but could be manual with clutch down. Point being that releasing the brakes is a problem.

    patience and excellence ! i will give an example from a novice like me .. so i was trying to climb a dune hill and i couldnt really keep up the momentum right at the start because i made a rookie mistake when i restarted the engine downhill i didnt notice track control and skid control all become reactivated making me loose significant momentum and car started to slide right at the start because being a rookie i was putting so much pressure on the gas, what happened is that my rear wheels started to slide left and there was a slope there i stopped. my rear is slightly facing down the slope towards a sand hole and front is just have minor ascend so either go front and risk of roll over cause rear keeps sliding or i would just accept the consequences and go backwards try to pass through the sand hole. of course i got stuck inside the sand hole with a steep sloope in front and mild curve behind. it took us about an hour till we got rescued but if i was more experienced id just dig in the front wheels and try to get me to safety front this way roll over chance would be eliminated and i can keep trying on a more horizontal terrain. i think most essential point of recovery is to not screw yourself in a more dire situation and analyse every step and decision without rushing.

    I am very experienced with towing since many years and noted a golden rule when swaying starts. IMMEDIATELY BREAK och take down speed. I also learned a very difficult method to drive at "Impossible" high speeds and wrong loads. When the swaying starts, you can give the steering wheel small pushes in the right direction i the same rhythm as the swaying. This dampens out the sway. But DO NOT try this if you are not a skilled person on it. One wrong push means crash. An extremely dangerous thing I experienced was when I slow puncture developed in a rear axle tire, suddenly started a disastreus heavy swaying. So be extremely careful towing double axels trailers bcs of this almost impossible to solve problem.

  • @drillsergeant623

    Enjoyed watching the van tackle all those tracks as it was giving me inspiration for what to try next with my rear locled 4motion van... And then you had to go and suggest that European vans wouldn't handle those tracks as well as the HiAce did... You might be right as cameras do tend to flatten hills, but there's two east coast 4x4 training companies that have been running 4motion van training for a few years now, so if you haven't seen what they're capable of it would be worth checking out. This is a really cool vehicle and lovely conversion, but i thought the VWs were expensive until i saw the price on this. I don't understand why folks think the euro vans can't handle Australia when they are driven all over Africa and Iceland. Without a direct comparison, you may be right; my experience is to just take it slow and steady and they can handle the ruts and wheel-raising. Plenty of vids of old synchros rock hopping. I had hoped a hiace alternative would be a cheaper way to get a VW outcome. Great review though, thank you.

As a group of 4WDers, caravaners, and boaties, it is high time we ban together and start directly telling our local politicians our position and find out their position. Currently, Labour seems to be scared of the Greens & Teals and not thinking of us. If we look at the 'life-cycle' of an EV v our current cars, that is from the time resources are mined, manufacture with all its C02 & other chemicals & electricity, right through to decommissioning and recycling, I feel that EVs will not stack up environmentally. The mining of EV minerals is a very dirty affair, and so is air travel. I have already given my State & Federal sitting members a rev-up about this new 4WD tax and it's lack of equality over emiiters. Basically, I can buy my expensive EV, charge it overnight on fossil-fue electrcity, then fly off for a 20 hour flight generating an immense C02 emission but its world ending to drive a 4WD on a 2 hour trip. I'll be voting for the party that brings equity to the whole emission scheme. How many jobs in the camping, caravanning, boating and 4WD industry will be lost forever. Currently, there are no suitable EV replacements. EV 4WD companies like Rivian are going under. In Australia, we need reliable 4WDs as your and your family's life may depend on the reliability and range of your vehicle. It's time to stand up and not wait until it's too late. My humble comments.

      I agree and in fact have a video on that exact topic showing two families, one drives a Prius and flies overseas, and the other drives a 4X4.
